Alfred & Constance
- Alexander Lotersztain
Externally, the historic homes that make up Alfred and Constance retain the architectural vernacular that belongs recognisably to Queensland, while internally, the project presents itself as an entertainment precinct with a gastro pub, and multi themed restaurant.
From the client's insistence on a highly visual, rich interior, we conceived the design as a exploration of theatre rather than focusing on traditional design process, basically staging the venue. The intention being to highlight the actors, the customers, a very playful approach to night venue design.
The project material strategy of reuse and repurpose was realised through the procurement of materials, furniture and decorative items and the to reuse existing site timbers, aiming for zero waste. Ninty-five percent of the venue was designed sourcing second hand and vintage goods, creating an immediate welcoming and homely feel that compliments the existing architecture and importantly, is environmentally responsible.
